Swim Meet Descriptions
The summer season consists of 5 dual meets, a relay meet, and a championship meet (please see schedule below). Dual meets generally last 4 hours. The relay meet lasts about 4 hours, and the championship meet can last up to 6 – 7 hours.

Dual Meets
Dual meets are a competition between Covington and one other team in the league. We have one dual meet per week during the summer season. At dual meets, swimmers can swim up to 4 events. Usually, 3 individual events and 1 relay. Relays are held at the beginning and end of a meet. Therefore, swimmers must be aware of when they are swimming in a relay and should be ready to swim.

The events for a dual meet are swum from youngest to oldest starting with the 6 & Under Boys. 6 and unders will only do the first 3 events. In addition, the strokes/events are swum in the following order:
- Free Relay
- Freestyle
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Medley Relay
Swimmers are awarded place ribbons for first, second, and third place in each heat. All other swimmers will receive a participant ribbon.
Relay Meets
The Relay Meet is with all six teams in the league competing. Each relay team we enter requires at least four swimmers. Therefore, we count on all of our swimmers to be available for this meet. There are no individual events on this day.

- Mixed Backstroke Relay (2 boys, 2 girls, any order)
- Boys Medley Relay
- Girls Medley Relay
- Step-up Inner Tube Relay, (3 boys, 3 girls)
- Boys Free Relay
- Girls Free Relay
- Step-up Free Relay (1 swimmer from each age group)
- Coaches Medley Relay
The events for the relay meet are swum from oldest to youngest starting with the 15-18 Mixed Medley Relay. Medals are awarded to swimmers on teams placing first, second, and third. Ribbons are awarded to swimmers on teams placing fourth through eighth.
Championship Meet
The Championship Meet is our biggest and last meet of the summer. All six teams in the league compete at St Francis High School. Swimmers are usually allowed to swim 3 individual events. There are no relays at this meet.
The events for the championship meet are swum from oldest to youngest beginning with the 15 – 18 Boys.

Medals are awarded to swimmers placing first, second, and third in each event. Ribbons are awarded to swimmers placing fourth through sixteenth in the “gold flight.” For age groups with a large number of swimmers, a “silver flight” will be made based on the results of each event. Swimmers placing first through sixteenth in the “silver flight” will also be awarded ribbons.
